Camp Fire USA is a not-for-profit coeducational youth organization that provides youth between the ages of three and eighteen with the opportunity to learn in small groups with peers and adults, explore the natural world and take on leadership opportunities within the community and world at large. More importantly, Camp Fire offers families life-enhancing experiences and the opportunity to serve, play and grow together. We believe that the best youth development takes place in small group environments where youth have an opportunity to interact with adults and other youth in a safe, fun environment that allows them to develop personal skills.
Camp Fire USA has been around for 100 years. It was started only a few years after the Boy Scouts by some of the same people as an organization for girls who wanted to participate in the same sort of activities that the Boy Scouts were participating in.
Camp Fire has always had a history of inclusiveness. From its start Camp Fire has been a nonsectarian group, and it was in fact the first nonsectarian, interracial organization for girls in the United States. In 1954 the national headquarters adopted a statement calling for greater inclusiveness of all groups, and in 1975 it became a fully co-ed organization. Today Camp Fire USA’s core values continue this tradition of inclusiveness, openly welcoming all children and adults regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation, or other aspect of diversity.
